Reliability Centered Maintenance has been so named to emphasize
the roles that reliability theory and practice play in properly
focusing preventive maintenance practices on retaining the
equipment's inherent design reliability.
Perhaps another way to look at RCM
is to compare it to value engineering. RCM and a good program of
preventive maintenance might be described as "doing the
right thing" while Value Engineering might be described
as "doing things right."

RCM and Value Engineering principles to enhance electrical
preventive maintenance and to predict defects that would prevent
